In addition, a combination of “Ship Cores” and Block Limits (using the Block Limiter plugin) are used.
Ship Cores replace Beacons as the required block your grid must have to avoid automatic cleanup routines. Ship Cores can be found in the G menu by searching for “core.” You are not limited in how many Ship Cores, and thus how many grids, you may have.
You will find three types of Ship Cores:
Each has different properties, but works in the same basic way. There are three categories of blocks that your Ship Core will regulate: Weapons, Tools, and Industry.
Weapons include all fixed and turreted weapons. Note that Interior Turrets are not limited nor counted by your Ship Core.
Tools include all tool blocks, such as Grinders, Welders, Drills, and the Multi-Tool.
Industry includes Assemblers, Refineries, and H2/02 generators.
For each category, a Ship Core will give you a number of maximum “points.” For Tools and Industry blocks, one block is usually worth one point. For Weapons the value will vary, but can be seen at the top of the weapon's description in-game.
Each type of core has different limits for each of these categories, and if your grid exceeds one of them a number of blocks on your grid will be damaged under the functional line until your points are back in adherence.

The Block Limiter plugin is used to limit the total number of certain blocks that players (and in one case, factions) can possess across ALL grids total, regardless of individual grid limits from Ship Cores.
Per-Player limits are per individual server instance.
