It has been nearly a millennium since the Age of the three mighty Nations of Mankind: the Federation, Union, and Consortium. Long did their struggle rage across the Draconian diaspora, those post-human survivors of the destruction of Sol; the mere few hundred thousand stewards of Mankind's Legacy. Yet conflict by it's nature is rarely long in stasis, and so eventually came the domination of the mighty Consortium over their contemporaries.
With a new peace through Consortium strength, the Draconian diaspora turned to more peaceful endeavors, reaping the resources of many worlds and navigating countless new systems by way of the ancient Jump Gate technology. With plenty of space and resources for all, conflict was rare and minor, and it would be fair to call the Consortium’s rule a golden era for post-humanity.
Yet peace by it's nature is rarely long in stasis, and so eventually came an end to the Consortium’s Golden Era. A severing of the bonds of Mankind so sudden and severe as to leave its very nature and source obfuscated still to this day fell upon Draconians. They were separated; isolated; thrown to confusion and disarray. The Jump Gates ceased to function, and each pocket of mankind became a small island in a broad and endless void.
It has been two hundred years since that event. The Draconian Remnants, cutoff from the vast resources their monumental machines require, now live a sort of half-life. Rarely leaving their cryo dream immersion, only to check on the status quo and find it unchanged.
Until one morning, when you awaken for the first time in many years and check the scans:
The Jump Gates are active once more, and something is coming through.
As the gate anchors became active, the hoard of Clan Severin began to spill forth. Debouching with total surprise and overwhelming number, they quickly concentrated onto the moon of Abraxas, decimating the meager unprepared defenders there and taking it as their foothold in the sector. From there, they began to launch attacks across the whole of Core Sector. Quickly, the sparse settlements and villages of Creo and Okeanos were scoured, the long-placid life of the people living there turned to sudden chaos and warfare. Warfare for which they were wholly unprepared. Though many of the awakened Draconians took it upon themselves to face the threat, there was simply too many suicidal marauders to handle, and most such places were wiped from the Core Worlds.
With such clear and present danger, the Core Sector Protectorate and the Ember Concord, the major powers within the Core, agreed to an immediate cessation of their own conflicts, so as to unify to face the palpable and sudden threat of Clan Severin. Over several weeks, CSPT and TEMC worked through their own assets alongside the fleets of the awakened Draconians to stem the tide, and finally cleanse Clan Severin from Abraxas.
Their legionous numbers remained in small pockets and strongholds scattered in the black of space, and as the Core Sector Protectorate worked to fully hunt them down, the Ember Concord established defensive positioning to secure Abraxas against reclamation.
When the Ember Concord then established a forward operating base in the Tau Sector, however, the temporary cessation was over, and the Core Sector Protectorate decalred a state of war.
