The Special Designation System

Special Designations are a system of special interaction and mechanical purpose within our metagame overall. Each Special Designation has a different purpose, different responsibilities and obligations, and different requirements and methods for attaining. However, most carry some very interesting benefits that open up a world of gamepaly possibilities, as well.

A Faction may only ever have one Special Designation at a time, and with the limited availability in these designations, not all factions will have one. Any faction that transfers National Affiliation will be stripped of any existing designation, with the exception of the Primary Assistance League. A PAL faction that is transferring may keep their designation with the approval of their new Nation’s Chancellor.

These Special Designations are not meant to be an all-encompassing set of gameplay niches, but instead serve specific roles within the overall metagame framework. To apply for a designation for your faction, your faction’s leader should review and prepare the requirements for that designation before pulling a ticket to begin the process.

Factions with this Designation are trusted refuel, repair, and planetary extraction experts certified by ACME as trustworthy to provide their service. They are tasked with assisting other Engineers, especially new arrivals to the sector.

Requirements to Apply:

  1. A Faction must be affiliated with a Nation to obtain and retain the PAL designation.
  2. A Faction must have at least 3 members, and at least 3 members intending to perform PAL duties.
  3. A Faction must provide material evidence of at least 3 vessels suited to PAL duties, completed and ready to go.
  4. A Faction must have the approval of its Nation’s Chancellor.
  5. A Registration Fee of 30 million Space Credits per member of the faction must be paid after acceptance of application, before designation is awarded.

The Primary Assistance League designation is not numerically limited, and Nations may have as many factions with this designation as they wish. However, a Nation must pay a one-time fee of 100 million Space Credits whenever an additional PAL faction is added beyond the first 3.

Obligations for Primary Assistance League Members:

  • A PAL Faction is expected to maintain availability of PAL services. If a PAL faction passes a period of 30 days without completing a PAL job, their designation will be removed.
  • A PAL Faction that violates any International Law, including but not limited to committing hostile aggressive acts while broadcasting as “on-duty,” will lose their designation.
  • A PAL Faction that becomes Unaffiliated, by choice or consequence, will be immediately removed from PAL designation.
  • A PAL Faction that grossly miscarries duty while broadcasting as “on-duty,” such as taking a job to assist a new Engineer but instead directly harming them, or giving their location out, will be permanently banned from PAL participation, both for the faction as a whole, and every individual member. Additionally, a permanent, recurring contract will be opened to the Mercenary Guild, rewarding Guild members each time they cause serious asset loss to the offenders. This contract will only be removed by unanimous agreement of the United Nations Council.

Privileges for Primary Assistance League Members:

  • PAL ships and pilots performing official PAL duties are protected by International Law prohibiting firing upon them while broadcasting “on-duty.”
  • PAL factions receive Asset Insurance for their PAL-related vessels. At initial acceptance of application, the Faction may submit their 3 required vessels for insurance. If a vessel is destroyed or heavily damaged while performing valid PAL duties, it will be replaced in whole by Asset Insurance, and the remaining wreck removed. This benefit triggers a one week cooldown between uses. Be sure to collect evidence to support your insurance claim!
  • PAL pilots can take and complete PAL jobs and be paid for their work. All Draconis Engineers enjoy the ability to request PAL assistance free of charge once a week. These jobs are paid for by ACME. For Engineers currently on “cooldown” from an ACME-sponsored request, PAL jobs may be paid by any willing party, at the normal established rates.

Requirements to Apply:

  1. A Faction must be affiliated with a Nation to obtain and retain the TTN designation.
  2. A Faction must have the approval of its Nation’s Trade Minister.
  3. A Faction may have no more than 10 members.
  4. A Registration Fee of 100 million Space Credits per member of the faction must be paid after acceptance of application, before designation is awarded.

The Transnational Trade Network designation is limited to a base amount of 2 per Nation. A Nation’s Trade Minister may choose to grant additional designations if they wish, but each additional designation will cost the Nation a monthly upkeep fee to maintain the ongoing additional designations at the following rates, to a maximum total of 5 TTN designations:
+1 TTN Designation 500 million credits/month
+2 TTN Designations 1.5 billion credits/month
+3 TTN Designations 6 billion credits/month

Obligations for Transnational Trade Network Members:

  • A TTN Faction is obligated to transport cargo if requested by their Nation’s Trade Minister with “reasonable, sincere effort” to accommodate the request. Failure to do so will grant the Trade Minister the opportunity to apply for removal of the faction’s designation.
  • A TTN Faction that violates any International Law, including but not limited to committing hostile aggressive acts while broadcasting as “on-duty,” will lose their designation.
  • A TTN Faction that becomes Unaffiliated, by choice or consequence, will be immediately removed from TTN designation.

Privileges for Transnational Trade Network Members:

  • TTN ships and pilots performing official TTN duties are protected by International Law prohibiting firing upon them while broadcasting “on-duty.”
  • TTN ships are the only ships legally allowed to transport various types of "contraband" as defined under International Law.

As their name implies, these organizations serve to enforce the laws of both their own Nation and those established by the United Nations Council. Given special authority in order to carry out their responsibility, they represent those upstanding lawful organizations in which others can entrust such authority.

Requirements to Apply:

  1. A Faction must be affiliated with a Nation to obtain and retain the SLE designation.
  2. A Faction must have the approval of its Nation’s Admiral.
  3. A Faction must have at least 5 members, and at least 5 members intending to perform SLE duties.
  4. A Faction must provide material evidence of at least 5 combat vessels suited to general patrol, and at least 1 combat vessel suited to combat against near/at-50kPCU threat level, completed and ready to go
  5. A Registration Fee of 50 million Space Credits per member of the faction must be paid after acceptance of application, before designation is awarded.

The Stellar Law Enforcement designation is limited to 3 total factions per Nation. This number can be expanded by International Law.

Obligations for Stellar Law Enforcement factions:

  • An SLE Faction that is found to fail to make a “reasonable, sincere effort” in carrying out the enforcement of its Nation’s or International Law will be at risk of removal from their designation at the discretion of the Admiral.
  • An SLE Faction that violates any International Law, including but not limited to committing hostile aggressive acts while broadcasting as “on-duty,” will lose their designation.
  • An SLE Faction that becomes Unaffiliated, by choice or consequence, will be immediately removed from SLE designation.
  • An SLE Faction that grossly miscarries duty while broadcasting as “on-duty,” such as acting under their authority to perpetrate unjust or hostile acts against an innocent party, will be permanently banned from SLE participation, both for the faction as a whole, and every individual member. Additionally, a permanent, recurring contract will be opened to the Mercenary Guild, rewarding Guild members each time they cause serious asset loss to the offenders. This contract will only be removed by unanimous agreement of the United Nations Council.

Privileges for Stellar Law Enforcement Members:

  • SLE ships and pilots performing official SLE duties are protected by International Law prohibiting firing upon them while broadcasting “on-duty.”
  • SLE ships and pilots performing official SLE duties are granted special authority to compel compliance by International Law.
  • SLE pilots can receive payment per-hour during on-duty periods, as well as bonuses when enforcing specific laws.
  • SLE factions receive Asset Insurance for their SLE-required vessels. At initial acceptance of application, the Faction may submit their 5+1 required vessels for insurance. If a vessel is destroyed or heavily damaged while performing valid SLE duties, it will be replaced in whole by Asset Insurance, and the remaining wreck removed. This benefit triggers a one week cooldown between uses. Be sure to collect evidence to support your insurance claim.
